As EU4 starts during the age of discovery, Colonization is an important feature available. The main benefit of colonialism is to improve the income generation and military logistics of the colonizing country. This is because colonized territories overseas can provide large boosts in trade income to the colonizing nation, as well as provide staging points for naval and land warfare around the world. This is accomplished primarily by creating colonial nationswhich are AI-controlled subject nations that will produce their own military and navy but will provide trade power and other benefits to the univetsalis, and creating trade companieswhich are semi-autonomous provinces that provide substantial trade bonuses in trade nodes that the colonizer can control. The type of subject nation created depends on its location in the world. Any nation can benefit colomies from overseas territories, even very distant ones, if they choose to make that territory into a state.

Currently, my economy is trudging along, gaining just around 1 ducat. As Portugal, I do not see much that I can do in relation to trade. How does everyone have big incomes? I am to stay in the positives with an army of only 10 thousand, 2 light ships, and a few other ships.
I have even mothballed my forts to save money, but that hasn’t helped significantly. What am I doing wrong? Showing 1 — 15 of 16 comments. There is a gold mine in Morroco you can steal. In my current playthrough as Portugal there were times where I had a couple of loans to deal with and it took years to get rid of them. But once you start colonizing and are able to stop the rebellions, you’ll slowly but surely rake in more of an income and you’ll become more self-sufficient. How do you bring in such big of an income? Colonies are a big investment and take a lot of funds. Mothball your heavy ships! They cost a fortune to maintain. You can also develop your provinces to get more money and also steal land from Morocco, Tlemcen, Tunis or even Castille if you see a chance and don’t want them as ally.

It is my first game in Europe 4: i didn’t play any paradox game earlier and am confused of how colonies work. Now I have 6 colonial provinces with total income of my colonies French Brazil around In the same time, until provinces joined as «French Brazil» and were just part of my country each of them with tax income around I don’t have old saves so can’t proof, but I believe 4 provinces were contributing more than current 6 joined together. I believe colony itself will keep invading other provinces that will raise my profit from colony, but my 2 colonists cost me 8 gold per month!!! And I have zero to nothing income from colony for years If you establish a 5 province colony in both North and South America and they grow further by themselves you actually have quite a solid investment.
The other thing you can do is just go to war for gold. I dissolved my alliance before I started the game with Englad. Views Read Edit View history. If controlling an area ahead of other colonizers is a concern, a nation can prefer to colonize locations with favorable terrain, but other major factors such as the number of hostile natives and the presence of a Center of Trade need to be considered as well. Sounds like your doing the right thing with keeping your military maintenance sliders down. Exploration idea 4: Land of Opportunity.

I’m playing as England and I think is univesralis I’m europa universalis 4 making money from colonies that worth it to enter a war against portugal to take that territory. I am placing all my colonizers to colonize other provinces, with the goal of increasing my colonial nation and making more money. I just want to know that i’m doing right, euorpa I’m earning just per week total. I’m building markets and temples on others provinces that’s not colonial nations, like inside england and French England, but this amount does not change. One more thing, I’m putting all my merchants to transfer all the money to the English Canal, that is my trade node. I’m on the right maming or i’m horribly mistaken?
